Thomas Orock lives in Cameroon. A good education cannot be taken for granted there. “Sometimes a teacher is teaching a class of 80 children,” Thomas says. He wanted to do something to change this.

Thomas started his organisation United Action for Children (UAC) to give children a good education. “We began in two regions with the ‘School on Wheels’,” says Thomas. “We pick them up and take them to school in buses. Many parents in the rural districts do not have transport, and this is the reason their child cannot go to school. This is why we pick them up and bring them.”

“I want to teach children that, with a positive attitude, they can work towards their future. They also learn that customs and values are important, such as being honest and sharing. I hope that this will tackle the corruption in our society. You have to begin right at the bottom!” says Thomas.

Alongside their lessons, children are also given computerlessons and instruction about AIDS, hygiene and topics about society. Sport is also an important part of the education.
